Tim O’reilly’s thoughts on web 2.0.

In researching and doing some reading on Tim O’reilly’s article on his thoughts about Web 2.o. I came to my own personal opinion on what I thought of the article. Tim O’reilly to me caused a great debate in the whole Web 1.0. vs the new age web 2.0. A lot of debate and skepticalism was brought up by numerous users and companies in whether he even new the definition of Web 2.o. He did what no other individual or company had done to promote the new age era of web usage. He didn’t re-invent the wheel, but changed the way users use the web. The way I see it, he simply took the web movement to a whole other level of web usage. I guess the world was not ready for it. When people don’t understand it they tend to hate it.

His simple conference session blew up to what we now know as Web 2.o. (blogs, Google, Napster, web services, participation, tagging, etc.) In other words, the usage of Internet took on a whole other world. In reading several articles about the whole Web 2.0., it seems like until this day there are several people who question Tim’s definition of Web 2.0. Personally, I think the man took upon himself and built something no other individual dared to do. He blew up like Adobe products did for Graphic Artist, Web Designers, and Magazine companies. Who knows what the worldwide web will be like 10 years from now, but I’m sure Tim’s name will surely come up in discussion. His simple curiousity is what has us doing this assingment online today.

I’m sure I could have learned a lot more on the article by doing sdeep reserach, but I was limited on the time I had to do my reasearch. My future goals are to take more time in to researching for assigment like this. However, I did learn something new, prior to this assingment and class, I never new who Tim O’reilly and what Web 2.o. was. It is very interesting on how the worldwide web has expanded so much. A big transition from Web 1.o. to Web 2.0. I actually give the man two thumbs up and congratulate him in doing what he did. He went above and beyond anyone’s expectations. Without his ideas, we might not have what we have today Webwise. If we where all set limits on what we can and can’t do, then we would not have what we have now. As for the critics, who cares, there’s always someone willing to try and bring down your great ideas. We all know there are so called “HATERS” out there, LoL.

Thanks,
Marco R.

  1. 2.0 was obviously a huge step up as you stated,
The only thing about it are the few draw backs there is such as pop ups, banners, etc.
Other than that great write up!

  2. I agree on Daniel B’s opinion on pop ups and ad banners. I also agree to your opinions about what O’Reilly stated on the importance of the development of softwares such as the Adobe line of software and to think about it, many of the software revolution and expansion was because many people see the need to some type of software to handle their experience in using the web and having a good user interface that is compatible with the customer’s lifestyle is a plus.

  3. I focused on all of the positive and upgrades that web 2.0. offered that I didn’t even bother noticing the negative things it brought as well. I agree with both you and Daniel on the annoying pop-up and banner feature that Web 2.o. brought along as well.

  4. Everybody seems to be going on about popups, but I have a solution to them in the form of Mozilla Firefox. That’s the thing about web 2.0. It fixes all of its problems eventually, or maybe, we’re already headed to web 3.0. We have to remember that as technology grows, eras shrink. Soon we’ll be coming up with names for a group of 5 years so that we can cover the many advances that are coming our way as history progresses. I wonder how that’ll work out.

  5. I think that web 2.0 is a good upgrade but im not sure about the whole pop ups and banners. Like storminnormin said there are ways to block those not only with Mozilla but there are things that you can go download now that stop those and even tell you when they were stopped and the great thing is you dont have to pay you can download them for free. You never know maybe when they upgrade again the popups may get worse because they most people spend a lot of there time surfing the internet and they fell that since people are always on computers that they best way to pull them in is to have banners or popups because i dont think you can have commercials on the internet yet.

  6. I have to agree with everybody as well about the popups and advertisements. As much as I love Firefox, though, it doesn’t solve all the problems. There are plenty of popup blockers you can get (although it seems very hard to find one that works on everything…there’s an occasional one that gets through even with Firefox). The advertisements and banners are what bother me the most. For this reason, I definitely lean towards Facebook as my main social networking application rather than Myspace. Everywhere you look on Myspace you get ads, it will mean the end of it eventually. I think it’s just a matter of time until someone creates something that combines the “cleanliness” of Facebook with the customization abilities of Myspace.

  7. I have to say that I agree with you ANGELO..I do believe that web 2.0 is a good upgrade however everything has its ups and downs, but looking on the positive side again there are many new ways and things that can be done to take care of the things such as pop ups.
